Influencing Policy: Resources: Policy Summaries

eHI produces summaries of major federal legislative and Administration developments related to improving healthcare quality, safety and efficiency through HIT. Summaries are produced on a regular basis by the eHI government affairs team.

FY-2007 Budget Outlook

On February 6, President Bush sent Congress his $2.8 trillion budget proposal for fiscal year 2007. Continuing his initiative for HIT, the President has requested $169 million, an increase of $58 million over 2006. Click here for an analysis of budget requests for DHHS.

 AHIC Meeting Summaries

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Service's  American Health Information Community (AHIC) is undertaking many activities to provide input about a vision of HIT that delivers benefits to patients, providers and payers, including monthly meetings and gatherings of its four Workgroups on bio-surveillance, chronic care, consumer empowerment and electronic health records. Click here for meeting summaries: August 1 and PPTs.

HHS OIG and CMS Issue Final Rules to Facilitate ePrescribing and EHRs

Final CMS and OIG rules were published in the Federal Register on August 8, 2006 CMS and pertaining to new physician self-referral exceptions and Federal anti-kickback statute safe harbors for certain e-prescribing and eHR technologies.
