Hands-On Help
Providing Practical Tools and Technical Assistance for National, State and Local Leaders
Understanding how to apply rapidly emerging policies, principles and standards is difficult for every leader in healthcare. eHI helps its members make sense of what's happening, and learn how to navigate the changing landscape in several ways.
- Unique Networking and Learning Opportunities: Learn From the Source! eHI's national and regionally-based conferences offer an opportunity for networking, learning and sharing of best practices face to face. During eHI's Annual Conference, held October 11-12, 2007, eHI unveiled its Blueprint for Change, the first-ever multi-stakeholder consensus document on common principles and strategies for using health IT and health information exchange to drive healthcare improvement.
- eHI Offers Technical Assistance. eHI also provides on-the-ground technical assistance to state and local leaders as they plan for and implement strategies to improve healthcare through health information exchange. To date, eHI has supported nearly 20 states with assessment and roadmap-development activities. eHI provides technical assistance using a "cooperative model" drawing upon the leadership and capabilities of leaders on the ground who have developed and implemented strategies for navigating governance-related, financial, technical, legal and privacy and security-related issues related to building a health information exchange network to support improvements in health and health care. As a non-profit, eHI keeps it rates low for such activities, ranging from $125 to $250 per hour based on the resource utilized. To learn more, contact jennifer.covich@ehealthinitiative.org.
- eHI's Connecting Communities Toolkit is an online resource designed to support healthcare leaders drive healthcare improvements through health IT adoption and health information exchange including those related to getting started, organization and governance, value creation and financing, technical aspects, policies for information sharing and practice transformation and quality. Just launched tools include:
- eHI's new Value and Sustainability Model, released in May 2007, offers leaders practical, adaptable tools to help them assess value and develop a sustainable business model to health information exchange. The model includes a market readiness assessment tool, a value estimator tool, a risk estimator tool, and a business plan pro forma, complete with interactive financial statements.
- eHI's new Public Education and Communications Toolkit, also released in May 2007, includes public awareness tools that can be used by healthcare leaders to educate consumers about the difference secure electronic health information exchange can have. The eHI web-based tools and resources include downloadable public announcements for radio, "print-ready" artwork for advertisements and billboards, case examples, and brochures on the importance of electronic health information exchange.
- Providing Support Through Federal Initiatives: through its work as subcontractor to NORC for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality's National Resource Center for Health Information Technology, eHI is supporting the work of hundreds of AHRQ grantees and contracts related to patient safety and health information technology through technical assistance activities, as well as the state and regional demonstration program, which supports six state-wide initiatives.
