eHealth Initiative (eHI) is the preeminent authority on health information exchange. Health information exchange is the act of transferring health information electronically between two or more entities. Since 2004, eHI has tracked the progress of organizations and initiatives across the country working in this area. These groups are known as health information exchange initiatives (HIEs). eHI has identified and collected information on 234 active health information exchange initiatives (HIEs) in the country. eHI and its membership support HIEs through research, education and advocacy for HIEs.
