Overview of Trends in Health Information Exchange and Implications for Public Policy

This webinar is the second in the eHI 2008 webinar series which focuses on the most critical challenges facing national, state and local leaders who are improving health and health care through the use of health IT and health information exchange.  This webinar will provide an overview of what’s happening related to health information exchange, based on the most recent surveys and research on health information exchange. The webinar will feature researchers focused on assessing the state of health information exchange.

PRESENTERS

David BatesDavid W. Bates, M.D., M.Sc. Dr. Bates is Chief, Division of General Medicine, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and is a practicing general internist.  He also serves as Medical Director of Clinical and Quality Analysis for Partner's Healthcare Systems.  He is a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Professor of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard School of Public Health, where he co-directs the Program in Clinical Effectiveness.  He has been elected to the Institute of Medicine, the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and the American College of Medical Informatics, and is the board chairman of the American Medical Informatics Association.

 

Jennifer Covich BordenickJennifer Covich Bordenick, Vice President of eHealth Initiative will discuss the trends reported in the eHealth Initiative’s Annual Survey of Health Information Exchange at the State Regional and Community Levels. The eHI survey is the most widely quoted survey on health information exchange and is used by several public agencies such as ONC, AHRQ, CDC and HHS in general, to inform strategies related to health IT. Ms. Covich will share new trend data related to financing and sustainability to be made available to the public in June 2008.

 

 

Don MonDonald Mon, PhD, Vice President of Practice Leadership, AHIMA, will provide an overview of the findings from the State-level HIE Consensus Project and Final Report which focused on assessing the current landscape of state-level health information exchange initiatives. During the duration of the project a sample of state-level.

Donald T. Mon, Ph.D., is Vice President of Practice Leadership for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), Dr. Mon leads the association’s professional practice initiatives. Dr. Mon represents AHIMA in helping to develop national policy and industry standards for the electronic health record (EHR), the personal health record (PHR) and health information exchange.  He currently co-chairs the Health Level Seven (HL7) EHR Technical Committee; is a co-facilitator for the HL7 PHR Work Group; is a co-chair of the National Alliance for HIT (NAHIT) Records Work Group that is defining such key terms at the EHR, EMR, and the PHR; and serves as an Industry Liaison for the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT) and as a member of the National Quality Forum (NQF) HIT Structural Measures Steering Committee.
