Overview of eHI's 2008 Second Annual Awards Program
APPLICATION DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 3, 2008
This year the eHealth Initiative will celebrate advances made in improving the quality, safety and efficiency of health care, honoring five organizations who have demonstrated leadership and excellence in using information and information technology to drive health and healthcare improvement in five key areas: engaging consumers, transforming care delivery, aligning incentives, improving population health, and privacy and confidentiality.
The awards will be presented in Washington on December 3 as part of eHI's Fifth Annual Conference and Awards Dinner, taking place at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
The eHI Annual Conference and Awards Program follows the framework created in the eHI Blueprint for Improving Health and Healthcare through Information and Information Technology. The Blueprint represents multi-stakeholder consensus on a shared vision, and set of common principles, strategies and actions for using health IT and health information exchange to improve the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare using the following improvement strategies.
- Engaging Consumers
- Transforming Care Delivery At the Point of Care
- Improving Population Health
- Aligning Financial and Other Incentives
- Managing Privacy and Confidentiality
Final awardees will be selected based on their ability to demonstrate improvements in health and healthcare by utilizing health IT and health information exchange to support four of the five above-identified healthcare improvement strategies. (Weighted 60%). Successful candidates will also demonstrate the following:
- Demonstration of Collaboration with Multiple Stakeholders (Weighted 20%)
- Demonstration of Exceptional Leadership and Commitment (Weighted10%)
- Impact on the Field and Commitment to Sharing of Best Practices (Weighted 10%)
eHI is also putting out a call for presentations for eHI's Fifth Annual Conference that demonstrate best practices in all five focus areas of the eHI Blueprint.
Who Can Apply? |

Award candidates must be nominated by an eHI member. An organization may nominate itself for the award. Organizations may also be nominated by other groups or individuals. Click here to apply or nominate an organization for the award. Candidate organizations may represent any sector within the health care industry, including clinicians, consumers, employers and purchasers, health plans, healthcare information technology organizations, hospitals and other providers, laboratories, pharmacies, manufacturers, public health agencies, academic and research institutions, state or regional leaders, and public sector agencies. Special consideration will be given to collaborations involving multiple stakeholders. Award winners must be present to receive the award on December 3 in Washington. |
Selection Criteria |

A committee of experts will review each application according to the eligibility criteria outlined above and the selection criteria outlined below. Alignment with the specific principles presented in the Blueprint will be considered the key factor in making the final selections. 1. Demonstrated Improvement in Health or Healthcare by utilizing health information technology or health information exchange to support one of four health care improvement strategies included in eHI's Blueprint: engaging consumers, transforming care delivery, improving population health, or aligning incentives.. Organizations should indicate the focus area/award category for which they are applying. Weighted at 60% 2. Demonstration of Collaboration with Multiple Stakeholders. Reviewers will assess the breadth and depth of multi-stakeholder engagement in candidates' healthcare improvement activities that leverage health IT and/or health information exchange. Organizations should demonstrate involvement by key stakeholders, such as consumers, employers and purchasers, payers, practicing clinicians, laboratories, quality improvement organizations, pharmacies and public health. Weighted at 20% 3. Demonstration of Exceptional Leadership and Commitment. Reviewers will assess the demonstration of leadership and commitment by top level executives. Candidates should describe how leadership is demonstrated within their organization, as well as how individuals demonstrate leadership beyond the organization and in the broader sector. Weighted at 10% 4. Impact on the Field and Commitment to Sharing of Best Practices. Reviewers will assess how the candidates initiatives have had impact on the field as well as their commitment to sharing best practices with other leaders at the national, state and local levels. Weighted at 10% |
Application Process and Scoring Weights Criteria |

Applicants must complete the online submission form. The online application is a set of questions, some of which require short essay responses, covering the four selection criteria outlined below. Nominees will be scored based on the following: 1. Demonstrated Improvements in Health or Healthcare by utilizing health information technology or health information exchange to support one of four health care improvement strategies included in eHI's Blueprint (Weighted 60%) 2. Demonstration of Collaboration with Multiple Stakeholders (Weighted 20%) 3. Demonstration of Exceptional Leadership and Commitment (Weighted10%) 4. Impact on the Field and Commitment to Sharing of Best Practices (Weighted 10%) |
Selection of Awardees |

Applications will be scored by reviewers free of conflict of interest. A rolled-up summary of scores will be provided to a Selection Committee made up of eHI Blueprint Committee Co-Chairs or their designees. The Selection Committee will make its final recommendations for awardees who will be approved by the eHI Board of Directors. Final awardees will be notified, and asked to attend the December 3, 2008 awards dinner to receive their award. Awardees will be recognized through a variety of means, including announcement at the awards dinner, inclusion in conference materials, inclusion in a press release and a broad communications and public relations related to the awards program and the national conference. |
