Collaboration Sites

Over a twelve-month period, eHI Connecting for Drug Safety Collaboration participants will test and evaluate safety signals using a combination of clinical and administrative data for three "use cases," including the use of cholesterol-lowering drugs and laboratory results related to liver failure, warfarin-related bleeding episodes, and a small set of adverse patient events commonly associated with medications, or "designated medical events (DMEs)" through research conducted in two clinical environments Partners HealthCare System in Boston, MA and the Regenstrief Institute in Indianapolis, IN.

Insights gleaned from the two "learning laboratories" in Indianapolis, IN and Boston, MA will be documented and converted into technical guides and tools that will be made widely available to the public, along with other deliverables of the project, including model legal agreements, legal guidance documents, policies related to managing privacy and confidentiality, and communications materials targeted to consumers to help them understand why this work is important.

The experiences in both Indianapolis, IN and Boston, MA will be documented in this section of the web site, as well as the experiences of other community-based organizations focused on using electronic health information for improving methods to assess both the risks and benefits of medications.

The eHealth Initiative will leverage its extensive partnerships with states and communities through the technical assistance work it performs with state and local leaders and the work of its Connecting Communities Coalition, to support the documentation of community experiences in this area.
