Robert D. Marotta is Senior Vice-President and Regulatory Counsel of HLTH Corporation (including WebMD Health, its subsidiary), a leading national provider of healthcare information services and technology solutions for participants across the entire continuum of healthcare.
Mr. Marotta's responsibilities include, among other things, the regulatory aspects of HLTH Corporation's business at the state and federal level. For almost twenty five years, he has commented before numerous state agencies and legislatures, in virtually every state, and the United States Congress, to discuss the practice of pharmacy and medicine, their regulation and related health care and information technology policy issues. In this regard, Mr. Marotta has addressed a wide range of subjects, such as advertising, licensure and credentialing, patient counseling, the use of automation and technology in the practice of pharmacy and medicine, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), patient privacy and confidentiality, pharmacy benefit management, Medicare and Medicaid, claims processing, disease management programs, medication errors, the use of the Internet for the practice of medicine and, technology generally and its dynamic application to health care.
Mr. Marotta also presently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of the eHealth Initiative, a Washington, DC organization whose mission is to drive improvement in the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare through information and information technology.
Prior to joining Emdeon, Mr. Marotta was the Senior Vice-President Regulatory Counsel of Merck-Medco Managed Care, L.L.C., a division of Merck & Co., Inc. In May, 2000, Mr. Marotta was awarded Merck-Medcos inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award for his distinguished service to the company and its commitment to patient care.
In 1995, the Pharmaceutical Care Management Association (PCMA) presented Mr. Marotta with the Presidents Distinguished Service Award, citing his guidance, direction, and personal efforts in establishing a successful and nationally recognized legislative program supporting managed care pharmacy. He has served as Chairperson of the PCMA and a member of its Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and Regulatory Affairs Committee (Chairperson, 1989-2000).
In 2001, the PCMA awarded Mr. Marotta with the Latiolais Honor Medal, the highest honor in managed healthcare. The Medal is presented annually to an individual who has shown exemplary service to the managed healthcare arena, his or her own profession, and the American public. Among others, previous Latiolais Honor Medal recipients have included Alain C. Enthoven PhD., Professor, Stanford University; Gail R Wilensky, PhD., Senior Fellow, Project Hope; and James D. Doluisio, PhD., former Dean, College of Pharmacy, University of Texas.
Mr. Marotta, is a member of the Advisory Council for the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame, the Board of Trustees of Ohio Northern University, and the Board of Trustees of The Columbus Academy. He is also a member of numerous professional and trade associations and organizations.
