Mike Berkery is the Chief Technology Officer of the American Medical Association (AMA). He oversees the areas of Information Technology, Internet Services and Telecommunications. His top priorities include developing and executing a technology strategy to position the AMA at the forefront of health information technology and as a leader in the e-health forum.
Mike has more than 30 years of experience in information systems and association management. He spent nine years at CNA Insurance, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Group Operations. At CNA, he upgraded and enhanced many of the core business operations systems, developed common systems to support needs spanning lines of business, and enhanced the use of technology by improving legacy systems with state-of-the-art technology. Prior to joining CNA, Mike spent 25 years at Deloitte & Touche providing consulting services that ranged from strategic business planning and management to highly technical information systems projects. In that time, he also worked extensively in association management and technology, working with the American Bar Association, ACGME, American College of Surgeons, American Dietetic Association and other national groups.
Mike has served a variety of not-for-profit groups, including St. Ignatius College Prep, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Thresholds Foundation. He also has co-authored four books on how to select a small business computer. He is married with two children.
Mike received a BS in Mathematics at Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio and an MBA in Quantitative Business Analysis and Production and Inventory Management at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.
