John Tooker, MD, MBA, FACP, is the Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the American College of Physicians located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the College in 1995 as Deputy EVP and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Dr. Tooker was Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine and Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency at the Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine and in the practice of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
Dr. Tooker received his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine followed by an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Bellevue Hospital in New York City and at the University of Colorado in Denver. Following service in the U.S. Navy from 1973-1975 at the Naval Regional Medical Center in Bremerton, Washington, where he was the Director of Intensive Care, Dr. Tooker completed a fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine and Critical Care at the Maine Medical Center and a Pulmonary Research fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
In June 2001, Dr. Tooker completed the Executive MBA Program at the Fox School of Business at Temple University. He is currently an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He also serves on the eHealth Initiative and NCQA boards of directors and as a Commissioner on the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT).
