Biography - Blair Butterfield

GE Healthcare Integrated IT Solutions

Blair Butterfield has over 20 years experience in the healthcare IT field, and currently leads the GE Healthcare IT Government Initiatives team. He has been involved in international, national, state, and local HIE initiatives for the past three years, and represents GE Healthcare on several state-level HIE advisory committees. Blair led the efforts that resulted in GE being designated as prime contractor for the state-wide Vermont Health Information Exchange, and is a frequent invited speaker at organizational, state-wide, and national HIE and HIT events. In his GE role, he also manages engagements by GE Healthcare IT with all US federal agencies such as the Centers for Disease Control, Department of Defense, and Veterans' Administration. Blair is a past Board Member of the Vista Software Alliance, and recently joined the Board of Directors of the eHealth Initiative and eHealth Initiative Foundation.

Blair spent the first part of his career in advanced applications for medical imaging and image-guided neurosurgery, working with luminary sites nationally and internationally to pioneer innovative technologies for minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment. In 2003, he joined IDX Systems Corporation where he was promoted to Senior Director, Government Initiatives in 2005, focusing on national and state health information initiatives in the US and Canada. Following the acquisition of IDX by GE Healthcare in 2006, he became General Manger, Government Initiatives for the newly combined organization.

Blair was born in Bermuda, graduated from Yale University, and now lives in Shelburne, Vermont.
