WASHINGTON, D.C. – JANUARY 28, 2010 – Robert Marotta, Esq., Senior Vice President and Chief Regulatory Counsel for WebMD, was elected Chairman of the eHealth Initiative Board of Directors on January 25, 2010. Marotta will be supported by new Vice Chairman William Jessee, MD, FACMPE, FACPM, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical Group Management Association.
"It is a great honor and a distinct privilege to be elected the Chairman of the eHealth Initiative, which is nationally recognized for its thoughtful and meaningful leadership as an advocate for health information technology”, said 2010 Board Chairman Marotta. "This organization is deeply committed to improving the quality and affordability of our national health care through the use of information and information technology. The eHealth Initiativewill be a key stakeholder in working with both the public and private sector to frame the critical issues and offer consensus-driven solutions, while at all times keeping the focus on the primary consumer of health care – the patient”.
The slate of new Board members, Board officers, and Leadership Council members were elected by the membership of the eHealth Initiative at the Annual Members Meeting on January 25th, the first event in eHI’s 2010 Annual Conference, Delivering on the Promise of eHealth.
According to Dr. Jessee, 2010 Board Vice Chairman, “The key strategy areas which the Board has chosen to focus on in 2010 are highly relevant to the current health care policy environment, while also drawing on eHI’s historical strengths as a public policy organization which excels in convening stakeholders and building consensus. I personally look forward to taking on a larger leadership role with the eHealth Initiative and its Foundation.”
In addition to Marotta and Jessee, the new leadership of the Board includes Board Treasurer Dennis Van Liew, Senior Director of the Strategic Management Group at Pfizer, and Board Secretary Cindy Ehnes, Director of the California Department of Managed Health Care. Dr. Jessee will also serve as Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for eHealth Initiative.
