Rajesh Dash - Biography

Rajesh_DashDr. Raj Dash is a board certified anatomic, clinical, and cytopathologist based at Duke University Health System in Durham, NC. He specializes in medical informatics, fine needle aspiration cytology and surgical pathology of breast cancer. He has supervised tissue banking operations for the medical center for the past decade, serves as Medical Director of Duke's clinical laboratory information systems, and has been responsible for clinical data acquisition and management associated with archived biospecimens for research. He has been involved with the research and development of medical terminologies and associated software tools for medical data mining and analysis. He is the principal author of Duke's primary biorepository informatics platform managing samples and associated clinical data, called MAW3®, which has been in production since 2000. This platform participated as a caBIG "caTissue Core" funded adopter in 2005. Dr. Dash has also participated as an informatics subject matter expert for the NCI Cancer Human Biobank (caHUB) initiative. He has represented the National Library of Medicine as a member of the Technical Committee on the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organization and most recently served as the chair of the International Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Special Interest Group within that organization. He is active on a number of committees serving the College of American Pathologists, including chairing the Diagnostic Intelligence and Health IT committee (DIHIT).
