Ileana L. Piña - Biography

Ileana_PinaIleana L. Piña, MD, MPH, FACC, FAHA is a heart failure and cardiac transplantation Cardiologist expert. She serves as an advisor/consultant to the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health and their section of Epidemiology. In July 2011 Dr. Piña joined the faculty of Montefoire Medical Center at Albert Enstein Medical College as Associate Chair of Academic Affairs and Professor of Medicine & Epidemiology and Population Health. In 1999, Dr. Piña joined the faculty of Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) in Cleveland, Ohio as Professor of Medicine and became the Director of Heart Failure and Cardiac Transplantation in the Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at University Hospitals of Cleveland. In 2009, she completed a VA Quality Fellowship Program at the Louis Stokes Veterans Administration Medical Center and in January 2010 she earned her Master's in Public Health from Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Piña is internationally recognized for her research in rehabilitation and recovery of heart failure patients. She is the author of over 75 publications in print, a world-renowned speaker on this subject. She has been and is a recurrent presenter/speaker in the World Congress of Cardiology in Spain, Argentina, and Colombia. Dr. Piña is a member of the GWTG Scientific Committee and Heart Failure workgroup, a national Spokesperson for Go Red for Women and was on the writing committee of the new American Heart Association Guidelines for the Prevention of Heart Disease in Women. She represents the American Heart Association at the Electronic Health Initiative (eHI) and on the Stakeholder Committee of AHRQ. Dr. Piña is currently the Advocacy Ambassador for QCOR as well as a member of SACC. Since 1982, Dr. Piña has been an American Heart Association volunteer since she completed her Cardiology Fellowship in Miami.
